I believe that beautiful sustainable buildings can only materialise after an enjoyable and collaborative journey where the collective focus is exclusively on the project in hand.  To this end, I allocate my time to ensure that I only have a single commission on site at any time.

Educated at the Universities of Sheffield and Edinburgh, I returned to my native Cumbria after spells in architectural practice in Cheshire, Edinburgh and New York City.  I am a ‘hands-on’ Architect who enjoys working with both the craftspeople who create my designs and the clients whose dreams I share.  I possess an in-depth working knowledge of historic buildings and I’m fortunate to be able to draw on an experienced contracting team to deliver the projects that we work on.

Alongside my role in architectural practice, I volunteer as a PlacEd Ambassador, as a Trustee of the Joanna Scott Foundation and with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.  I have sat on the RIBA Awards judging panel on two occasions.  I have also previously been a workshop leader for the Stephen Lawrence Trust / Places Matter ‘Architecture for Everyone’ programme and as an architecture degree tutor at the University of Central Lancashire.  I am currently a part-time design review tutor at the Lancaster University School of Architecture.

Outside the studio, I’m a fell runner, squash player, regular gig attendee, nature explorer (with our two young daughters), watercolourist and long suffering – yet ever hopeful – fan of Carlisle United F.C. and the New York Mets baseball club.
